An Absolute Nightmare – Terrible Online Booking System and Disappointing Customer Service
Going to the cinema should be an enjoyable experience. Unfortunately, at Ciné Scala in Diekirch, the frustration starts long before the film even begins – with the online ticket booking system.
The booking system is an absolute nightmare. If you only want to reserve a single seat, you might be lucky. But as soon as you try to book five seats together, the whole process turns into a lottery. Although you can select a row, choosing the exact seats you want is so unnecessarily complicated that you have to click around countless times just to get anywhere near your preferred selection.
Things get even worse when the website freezes during the booking process. After refreshing the page, the seats you previously selected are suddenly blocked, even though the booking was never completed. When I called the cinema, the staff couldn't even tell me how long those seats would remain unavailable.
So I tried again, this time selecting a different row. After logging into my account, the website simply kept loading indefinitely. Once again, I had to refresh the page, and once again, the seats I had selected were blocked. Two booking attempts, two failures, and several seats now apparently unavailable, even though nobody has actually purchased them.
What makes this even more frustrating is that this is already the third time in a single year that I have experienced serious problems trying to book tickets.
When I called to report these issues, my concerns were not taken seriously. Instead of acknowledging the problem or offering a solution, I was essentially told that the website worked perfectly well. That is an incredibly disappointing response to a specific and repeatedly experienced customer problem. Simply insisting that everything works does not make the problem disappear.
Now I may have no choice but to drive to Diekirch without a reservation and hope that suitable seats are still available – while the seats I originally wanted may still be blocked because of my own unsuccessful booking attempts.
It is great that Diekirch has its own cinema and that it benefits from public support. However, that should also come with the expectation that basic services, such as a reliable online booking system and proper customer support, actually work. In a genuinely competitive market, this kind of customer experience would hardly be a sustainable business model.
And then people wonder why more and more customers prefer staying at home and watching films on their televisions. When something as simple as buying cinema tickets becomes such a frustrating, time-consuming ordeal, and complaints are dismissed rather than addressed, it is hardly surprising.
My conclusion: The cinema itself is a valuable asset to Diekirch. Unfortunately, its online booking system and the way customer complaints are handled are in urgent need of improvement. This is how you drive customers away instead of encouraging them to enjoy a night at the movies.
Souhait pour l’entreprise
I sincerely hope that Ciné Scala will finally invest in a reliable, user-friendly online booking system that allows customers to select their exact seats without unnecessary frustration. Failed bookings should not leave seats temporarily blocked, and customers should be able to recover their reservations without having to start over.
I also hope that customer complaints will be taken seriously rather than dismissed with claims that everything works perfectly.
A publicly supported cinema should set an example in accessibility, reliability and customer service. Ciné Scala has the potential to be a wonderful asset to Diekirch, but it urgently needs to improve the customer experience. Buying cinema tickets should be simple, not a test of patience!
