Review of Holy Trinity Protestant Church

In 1333

In 1333, Friederich von Meysenburg had the first chapel built on this site. In 1628, the church and its associated monastery came into the possession of the Augustinian nuns, who had the archbishop rebuilt after the bombardment by Louis XIV's troops in 1730, following the model of St-Paulin in Trier. The Trinity Church thus becomes the first Baroque building in Luxembourg City. In 1817, after the Congress of Vienna, the church went to the Prussian garrison, which held evangelical services there. In 1890, the Nassau-Weilburg evangelical dynasty took over the Luxembourg throne, and Trinity Church became their court church. Grand Duke Adolf I founded the United Evangelical Church of the Grand Duchy by decree in 1894.
